A week of deep work, for one team, in Foncine-le-Bas

A deep-work week succeeds on three conditions: doors that close, a line that holds, and no one else inside the walls. Few places offer all three; open plans and hotels always sacrifice one. In Foncine-le-Bas, Jura 835 brings them together, let as one whole house.
Doors that close
Deep work needs walls, and a place where nobody has to defend them. Here, every workstream advances behind its own door: 3 bedrooms and a study, a call on one side of the corridor, a writing session on the other, and nobody lowers their voice. At 835 m, up on its meadow, the house hears only the wind; at night, nothing. Silence is the default state, and you will do nothing to earn it.
The rules of the week
The teams that go home with a real result set their rules on the first evening: no-meeting mornings, phones in a basket until noon, one single slot for emergencies. The house makes those rules easy to keep, because nothing comes to test them: no doorbell, no passers-by, and the little village road stays quiet. The fibre holds the rest, with 1 Gbit/s of bandwidth for evening backups and the one client call that could not be moved.
Converging at noon
In the morning, each to their own door; at noon, the shared table puts everyone back on the same page. That is where the workstreams cross, with no formal meeting: a quarter of an hour of comparing notes is enough, then each returns to their silence, with one question fewer and often one idea more. To build the five days around that rhythm, see our Monday to Friday offsite format. Most evenings end early, and that is the point: the next morning, the first hour of work beats any hour at the office.
Walking to rest the head
At the end of the day, a walk resets the head. Starting in the garden, the Rapoutier path traces a 6.8 km circuit, walked in roughly 2 hr 15 min, and the meadow climbs towards the wooded crest, which tops out at 1,063 m on the elevation grid measured around the house. Half an hour is often enough: you come back with the answer you were chasing on screen. Walk without a phone, or in flight mode: the walk only counts if nobody catches up with you on the way.
The house, seen from the work
Logistics kill deep work more surely than noise. Here a single team, never more than 6 to 8 guests, hears no noise but its own; the house is never let by the room. The main room, stove and all, pulls everyone back together at noon, and everything sits on one level. Weekly pricing for the whole property starts at €4,200. Tell us your dates: the week is yours.
