Geneva to Foncine-le-Bas: the drive, the team’s view

From Geneva airport to Foncine-le-Bas, the route planner gives a 1 hr 20 min drive. A team that lands in the morning holds its first session before noon, and only drives back once the week is done and the decisions written. At the end of the road: Jura 835, a house let whole to one team.

Leaving after coffee

You land in the morning, take two cars and climb the valley between the spruce stands. Cornavin station is 1 hr 15 min away; from the Nations district, 1 hr 15 min. On arrival the long table is clear; the first session holds before noon. Everyone ends up in the same valley by evening, with no meeting point beyond the address.

Those coming from elsewhere

A scattered team does not necessarily come through Geneva. Colleagues in Paris take the TGV to Frasne: 2 hr 48 min on the most direct trains, then 40 min by car to the village. Those in Lausanne also have a TGV Lyria to Frasne. Pick a time to meet at the house, and plan the shuttles before anyone books a ticket.

The car is already the meeting

The drive belongs to the offsite, and deserves to be planned as a first session. Two or three to a car, with no room and no agenda, the subjects nobody dares open in a meeting slip out between two bends. Many teams arrive with part of the work roughed out before the bags are down. The return works the other way: you roll back towards Geneva dividing up what was decided.

The distance is the tool

Once up here, there is nothing left to do but the week you planned, which is precisely the point. The village is small, the valley calm; the urge to slip into town in the evening dies on its own. The drive draws a clean border: short enough to leave after coffee, long enough to truly disconnect. The team stays together from the first evening to the last, and that is where an offsite is won.

What the week owes to the road

A successful offsite week is often prepared during the first drive. Name one person per car to note the topics that come up; on arrival, they are pooled before the first session. On the way back, the same person writes up the list of agreed actions and sends it before anyone is back in their inbox.

The house at the end of the road

At the end of the road, the team has the house to itself. Up to 6 to 8 sleep in 3 bedrooms, with a study for calls; everything is on one level, and the 1 Gbit/s line keeps headquarters a click away. Pricing is for the entire property, starting at €4,200 per week. To weigh it against a hotel, see whole house or hotel, and for connectivity, fibre in Foncine-le-Bas.
