Three generations, one house

By Robin — your host · 12 July 2026 · updated 10 October 2026 · 2 min read · Our method

A holiday across several generations hinges on one detail: who sleeps where. Everyone needs a proper room, the elders need no steps, and the table must seat everyone at once. Jura 835, in Foncine-le-Bas, is a single-level house let whole to one family, for 6 to 8 people.

Under one roof

In a hotel, an extended family scatters: rooms on different floors, a corridor between generations, dining-room hours you put up with. A house brings everyone back under one roof and hands the timetable back to the family. Here the house is never shared: you close the door, and the week belongs to your own. The rate covers the house, from the baby to the great-grandmother. Everyone keeps their own rhythm: the grandparents have an early, quiet breakfast, the parents head out for a walk, the children linger in pyjamas, and the day comes back together around lunch.

Who sleeps where

The house has 3 bedrooms, a study that doubles as a spare room and 2 bathrooms, all on one level. Give the elders the quietest room: between their bed and the breakfast table the floor never changes level, so getting up at night means no thought of steps. The children sleep a few paces from their parents, and the study takes a cousin or a nanny. Everyone has a door.

The long table

In the evening, everything converges on the living room under the exposed trusses. A table long enough for everyone, the same one from the first evening to the last. Whoever cooks stays in the conversation, and so does whoever lays the table. After dinner the stove takes over, and card games bring the ages together. The enclosed garden, 400 m², lets the children play outside while the adults finish their coffee, as the enclosed garden page describes.

Outings for every age

The hardest part with three generations is finding an outing that suits everyone. The Langouette gorges lie 5 min from the door by road, a short visit you watch from above, covered in the gorges with children. The voie du tram, an old line turned path, stretches over 11 km with little climbing: everyone walks the stretch that suits them. The youngest run ahead, the eldest stop on a bench, and everyone meets up on the way back.

The numbers, to finish

For the family, the sheet fits on three lines: 3 bedrooms and a study, 2 bathrooms, 124 m² on one level, for 6 to 8 people with no camp bed. The rate covers the whole house, from €4,200 a week: bringing three generations together costs the same as bringing two. Write to us with your dates and the ages of the youngest and the eldest.
